Latent Place
Subjective is pleased to present Latent Place, a group exhibition exploring the interplay between the current largely abandoned state of virtual worlds and the creative and sociological potential that lies therein. Featuring 10 artists who embrace 3-dimensional digital art as a canvas for critique, play, and speculative imagination; the exhibition investigates how virtual spaces reshape cultural norms surrounding identity, online interaction, and collective action, and how the platform physics of these environments are influenced by capital and power structures. Latent Place surveys the remnants of the most recent surge of interest in virtual worlds, or 'the metaverse', which peaked in 2021, juxtaposing the quiescent state of these spaces with their unfulfilled promises and impending future.
